John Yates is a San Fransisco bay area-based graphic
designer who made a name for himself while resident artist
at Alternative Tentacles Records, the Dead Kennedy's label.
Originally from Leeds, England, his work is noted for it's
pointed political bent, agit-prop presentation style,
and subtle humor. He has provided design work for numerous
bands including, Jawbreaker, Alkaline Trio, Lifetime, Green Day,
Anti-Flag, The Promise Ring, and Tomahawk,
amongst (many, many) others.
In addition, he has designed book covers for such radical
thinkers as Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and Angela Davis,
along with artwork for numerous other authors for a variety of book
publishers. He has also provided merchandising design work for
Burton Snowboards, Ksubi Jeans, Mighty Healthy, many bands,
as well as well as his own material.
He splits his design time between some of San Francisco's better
known ad agencies and design boutiques (prostitution),
and his freelance client base (redemption).
