MADSAKI x Stussy

MADSAKI x Stussy

Born in Osaka, Japan in 1974, MADSAKI was brought up in a typical Japanese family. While living in Japan, he had no one to play with so he drew, played outside and rode his bike.

In 1980, his family moved to New Jersey, USA. MADSAKI did not like living in the USA and was not happy. His frustrations led him to figure out what he wanted to do in life and search for himself.

He later moved to New York City where he enrolled in Parson's School of Art. He was passionate about art and drew constantly during his four years enrolled in Parson's. In 1996 he became frustrated again and stopped drawing. He didn't feel like his degree in art was of any use and he had no sense of belonging. So, he decided to set out on yet another path and see where it would take him.

In 1999, after four years of walking a path with no real meaning, he decided to become a NYC messenger. While being a messenger for three years, he realized the value of life and how he could use his talents as an artist to put his experiences, feelings and thoughts into his art.

Just as a bike messenger picks up packages all over town and delivers them, so could his life lessons be collected and told through art. Art is a tool MADSAKI uses to search his soul. And he finds the most value in sharing them, both happy and sad, with others.
